Sexting – A Silent Crisis, A Sacred Call to Protect

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." — Romans 12:2

What is sexting? Sexting is the sending or receiving of sexually explicit messages, images, or videos via phone, apps, or online platforms. For our children, it’s not just a tech issue—it’s a spiritual battlefield that attacks their dignity, purity, and worth.

Who’s involved? Teens (even preteens) often sext under pressure to feel loved, validated, or accepted. Predators exploit that vulnerability with deception and evil intent. These actions distort God's design for intimacy and self-worth.

Why do kids do it? They crave love, affirmation, or control in a confusing digital world. They may not realize that true love never demands compromise. 1 Corinthians 13 reminds us love is patient, kind, and pure—not manipulative or secretive.

Why predators do it? Predators, often posing as peers, use lies and manipulation for power and pleasure. John 10:10 warns, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” We must protect our children from such darkness.

Why is it so harmful? Once an image is shared, it’s never truly gone. The emotional and spiritual damage can last for years—shame, anxiety, isolation, even suicidal thoughts. But Jesus restores. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

How parents, grandparents & faith leaders can help:

  • Start with grace. Talk early, listen well, and don’t shame.

  • Speak truth. Teach them their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19).

  • Pray daily. Cover your children in prayer for strength, wisdom, and purity.

  • Guard their hearts. Monitor apps, devices, and friendships lovingly but firmly.

  • Create accountability. With siblings, pastors, and mentors.

  • Lead by example. Let your family’s tech use reflect faith and boundaries.

Healing victims & reaching perpetrators: Remind your child: “You are not your mistake. God’s mercy is bigger than your pain.”Christian counseling, prayer, confession, and community can restore what was lost.

Our calling: As a faith community, we must protect innocence, speak truth in love, and fight for every soul caught in this crisis. This is not just a tech issue—it’s a spiritual mission to guard hearts, renew minds, and walk in light.
