Newsletter #7:
Allow me to share some recent developments regarding Strongerfamiliesonline.org (SFO). After careful reflection and guidance, I have refined the focus of SFO to emphasize its identity as a “Catholic” resource. This decision arose for several reasons:
A Catholic Voice is Needed: There are very few resources tailored specifically to Catholic parents in this space. While many are general or Christian-focused, the uniquely Catholic perspective is underrepresented.
My Role as a Deacon: Given my calling, it seems only fitting to narrow the focus to align with my faith and vocation.
Deeper Impact in a Targeted Market: While the Catholic community is large, honing in on this audience allows for a more dedicated and impactful mission.
Rich Catholic Heritage: Focusing on Catholicism allows me to highlight elements like the Eucharist, Reconciliation, Saints, and prayer life as foundational resources for parents to guide and support their children.
Here is the redesigned website:
Expanded Focus and Revised Mission
SFO’s focus now encompasses both prevention and healing, equipping parents with strategies to safeguard their children and tools to help them recover and thrive after online harm. I’ve also refined our mission statement to reflect this dual purpose:
Stronger Families Online exists to equip parents with the knowledge and tools to protect their children from online dangers. Our mission is twofold:
Prevention—Empowering parents with proactive strategies to shield their children.
Healing—Helping families recover and grow stronger together after online trauma.
Our ultimate commitment is fostering resilience, confidence, and post-traumatic growth, ensuring that no child carries the burden of online harm for a lifetime.
Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG): A New Vision for Healing
One of the concepts I’ll be introducing is PTG. PTG moves beyond mere recovery and emphasizes growing stronger through experiences of trauma. When children face challenges like cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, or online grooming, they often feel fear, shame, or self-doubt. Parents, in turn, may feel powerless to help.
However, research demonstrates that, with the right guidance and support, children can rise above trauma, developing greater resilience, self-awareness, and emotional strength. PTG transforms trauma from a life-defining burden into a catalyst for positive change.
How PTG Can Help Children:
Deeper Emotional Strength: Develop self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
Stronger Family Bonds: Foster open, honest communication within the family.
Renewed Sense of Purpose: Find personal meaning and strength through adversity.
Healthy Coping Mechanisms: Build strategies for managing future challenges.
Messaging Strategy for Parents
To help parents understand PTG, I plan to focus on these supportive messages:
"Your child doesn’t have to be defined by what happened to them. With the right tools and support, they can grow from this experience and emerge stronger.”
"Pain does not have to equal permanent damage. There is hope, healing, and a way forward.”
"Your role as a parent is critical—not just in helping your child recover but in guiding them toward post-traumatic growth."

Many children have already experienced online trauma—from cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, or online predators. SFO's PTG initiative can help!
Empowering Catholic families to navigate the digital world with faith, safety, & responsibility
